Institutional case files and commitment papers for boys andgirls considered to be delinquents by the state of Minnesota. Initially, inmateswere homeless, neglected, and dependent children (mostly boys ages nine tofourteen). In 1895 a court conviction for crime (except murder) became aprerequisite, and beginning in 1911 the facility housed delinquent boysonly.

Located near Rochester, Minnesota, the Youth Vocational Center was established in 1961 as a vocational training facility for approximately 50 boys, ages 16 through 18, transferred from the State Training School in Red Wing.
